History

In 1990 Jill and Denis Scott had a dream to build a residential home in Kent where young people with learning disabilities could live and work together. Their project was born out of experience when their handicapped daughter, Henny, was forced to live many miles away because of the lack of facilities close to their home.

Scotts Project Trust was founded in 1990 and became a registered charity in 1991. It was converted into a company limited by guarantee in 1996.

A three acre site, including a superb hall, was donated to the Trust by Honeygrove Properties Ltd. St Peter’s Row, a terrace of three homes especially designed for adults with learning disabilities, was built on this site and was opened by HRH the Duke of Gloucester in July 1998. The old Barn on another part of the site was converted into a Day Activity Centre in 1999 and now provides a range of activities for the residents and others living in the local community.

The Trust has acquired two nearby houses, the Oaks and the Willows, which provide supported living for adults with learning disabilities who have developed sufficient skills and confidence to live more independently and wish to do so.
